Today we have the author Beth Barany visiting! She is the author of the novel Henriattia the Dragon Slayer. What is In Her Words: An Author bio, as funny, random or serious as you want. 250 word max so concise is key!

Beth likes to read books for kids
and adults, mostly fantasy and science fiction, plus science fiction and
paranormal romance, and mysteries and thrillers, too.
She's been writing since she was
a little girl, and wanted to be a writer. She also wanted to be a spy,
detective, broadcast journalist, model, actress, or adventurer. She also wanted
to be magic, go to outer space, travel to every continent and learn lots of
languages.
Today she speaks fluent French,
and so far has had adventures in three continents: North America, Europe and
Africa.
While she hasn't gone to outer
space yet, she's been working on a story set there; her stories also always
have some kind of magic.
She was inspired to write Henrietta the Dragon Slayer because all the fairy tales she read as
a kid were always about boys as heroes: Jack
the Giant Killer this, Jack and the
Seven-Headed Giant that, and of course, Jack
and the Beanstalk. What happened to Jill? Where was Jill, the girl hero?
That is why I wrote Henrietta the Dragon
Slayer. I wanted to have my girl heroine fight the good fight and have adventures.
In her off hours, Beth enjoys
cardio kickboxing, stick yoga, reading and watching movies with her husband,
author and singer/song writer Ezra Barany.

ReplyDeletemy favorite fary tale?hm...i can't decide between Cinderella and The Sleeping beauty :D
ReplyDeleteBeth, did you ever read a fairy tale about "Molly Huckabuck"? I read it someplace when I was a kid, but can't seem to find it now. As in most fairy tales, Molly is the youngest of three siblings. Unlike in most fairy tales, Molly takes care of her sisters, winning royal husbands for them by her acts of bravery. She eventually wins the king's handsomest son to be her husband by one final daring deed that gets rid of a giant. Even as a kid, I thought there should be more stories like that. Though as a firstborn, I did wonder why the baby of the family ONCE AGAIN got the best of everything, just like in all the other fairy tales!

Sunder, I haven't read "Molly Huckabuck." Love it. I'll seek it out. I hear about being firstborn. I am too! Hey, what about our adventure story! You're giving me an idea... Glad you stopped by!
ReplyDeleteiOaNa, Thanks for stopping by. yeah, both those tales are lovely. I think I'd choose Sleeping beauty. It has more suspense... :D
ReplyDeleteI must say that I'm drawn to Cinderella with the wicked stepmonster and the prince. However, my favorite is The Red Shoes. No other fairy tale like it.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great question! In fact, I've been using fairy tales to fall asleep for the last year and few months. It works like a charm. But because I read them every night, I've read every single Grimm & Hans Christina Andersen fairy tale, so I moved on to Japanese (which mostly focuses on Magical Sea Creatures), German (magical creatures and beings), Welsh (focuses on the Welsh themselves and their love for Wales, it's very heroic and proud), Eskimo, Hindu (is about poor men usually finding some object that is magical) & Native American (elders telling stories of great men or of simple ways). After reading these fairy tales you get a real sense of the culture of that nation or society. Truly an amazing adventure. So, that being said, it's hard to have one favorite. I think my favorite tales are those which involve finding beings of magical powers, fairies, elves, etc...I loved the Japanese ones - they always seemed to give an idea of living forever, to me. I will leave you with, then, the answer as I would've stated it before I read the others, for when I was a child my favorite was always Sleeping Beauty.
