Kendra, fifteen, hasn't felt safe since she began to recall devastating memories of childhood sexual abuse, especially because she still can't remember the most important detail-- her abuser's identity. Frightened, Kendra believes someone is always watching and following her, leaving menacing messages only she understands. If she lets her guard down even for a minute, it could cost Kendra her life. To relieve the pressure, Kendra cuts; aside from her brilliantly expressive artwork, it's her only way of coping. Since her own mother is too self-absorbed to hear her cries for help, Kendra finds support in others instead: from her therapist and her art teacher, from Sandy, the close family friend who encourages her artwork, and from Meghan, the classmate who's becoming a friend and maybe more. But the truth about Kendra's abuse is just waiting to explode, with startling unforeseen consequences. Scars is the unforgettable story of one girl's frightening path to the truth.
Such an intense read.
With every page I kept reading faster and faster wanting to know who it was!
Fans of Laurie Halse Anderson will love this read.
The characters! Oh my
lord.. they all have issues, and or are different. They are so developed and so
real. Kendra is really easy to like. You feel so bad for her, and wish you
could help her.My favorite character out of the bunch is Sandy. I would love to
have him as a friend. He seems like a great person.
I had a clue about who
it was but I didn't want to believe it. You will be so scared for Kendra
and the things she goes through.
This really is a trilling and moving book. It is very hard to put how I feel into words about this novel.
The writing is raw and real. You will feel like your there with the characters.
I can't wait to read more of Cheryl's work!
