As the title states I am taking Honors English II next year. Along with the course I have summer homework...Yea, fun (sarcasm inserted here). This is a huge pain in the rear! I have to read one AP book, which are the ones you will be voting on, and write an essay. Then read another more 'modern' book and do a huge project and essay on it. Okay I am done winning. Vote Away!

Which AP book should I read for Honors English II?

  1. Stay away from Fahrenheit 451 If you are a lover of good books. I loved The Great Gatsby. Another good one is White Fang and To Kill a MockingBird.

  2. Um, I think that The Catcher and the Rye is really suppose to be The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, which is an amazing book; you can tap into the coming-of-age aspect as well as isolation/loneliness. However, The Great Gatsby would be my second choice. Such a great book to explore the decline of the American dream.

  3. I studied The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in The Rye, both great books to read. C:

They have completely different writing styles though; GG has a formal, more intellectual style, while CR has an informal style. Personally, I liked CR more because I understood it easier, but you have to read it slow to understand the psychoanalytical approaches. As for GG, I didn't understand what was happening at first, but it all clicked in the end; it's such a melodramatic book, but Fitzgerald's writing is exquisite! Watching the movie was intriguing because the actors and actresses were so stunning to look at! Oh. Off-topic. Oh, all right. I think you should read the GG then. You can watch the movie afterwards! 4. The positive aspect of Great Gatsby is the fact that its really short. And I think John Green is doing a readalong this summer!

Revealing Eden by Victoria Foyt

When I read Dystopian books, I either love them or hate them. Most of the time I just can not connect with the characters, and sometimes it's the setting. But with Revealing Eden I was completely captivated with the world Victoria created.

Steel by Carrie Vaughn

Time travel and pirates. These are two words that I love to hear! I have always love time travel, and pirates have always interested me. So finding this book was like finding a buried treasure! ( why yes, that was super cheesy, but I couldn't resist!) In fact a book I am writing now has to do with time travel. :D hehe!

The Queen of Kentucky by Alecia Witaker

The Queen of Kentucky is a book that I, as a Kentucky native myself, could relate to. Being able to relate to the characters and the surroundings really made me enjoy this book. The Queen of Kentucky is one of those books that has such a great message.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

As soon as I got this book I tore into it! I could not wait to read it! And once I started Under the Never Sky it never let my hand. :) This is by far one of my favorite dystopian novels that I have read this year! Veronica really surprised me with her debut! Think of Under the Never Sky as awesome as Angelfire, and if you know me at all then you know that this novel blew my socks off! it!
