Quincie Morris has never felt more alone. Her parents are dead, and her hybrid-werewolf first love is threatening to embark on a rite of passage that will separate them forever. Then, as she and her uncle are about to unveil their hot vampire-themed restaurant, a brutal murder leaves them scrambling for a chef. Can Quincie transform their new hire into a culinary Dark Lord before opening night? Can he wow the crowd in his fake fangs, cheap cape, and red contact lenses — or is there more to this earnest face than meets the eye? As human and preternatural forces clash, a deadly love triangle forms, and the line between predator and prey begins to blur. Who’s playing whom? And how long can Quincie play along before she loses everything? TANTALIZE marks Cynthia Leitich Smith’s delicious debut as a preeminent author of dark fantasy.

I have some good, and some bad about this book. Thats why I was so hesitant to read it. It seemed like no one really LOVED it. I was also hesitant to pick it up because it's about a restaurant. If I'm reading a book about food it makes me hungry. If I am reading and hungry then I'll just eat and eat and...well you get it. Finally, I picked it up, and bought it. I really did enjoy this, but I didn't love it.

It was a spin on what we think about vampires now. It was fast paced, and the food, well most, sounded delicious!

Having a restaurant focus the book was unusual and interesting. Some of the food mentioned made my mouth water! And yes, I did end up eating a lot, till the mentioned chilled squirrels. That made me lose my appetite.

Quincie was a like able character. Although to me she seemed forgettable. She just wasn't special, or she didn't have that WOW factor for me. I also thought she was a little possessive of Kieren. I loved Kieren! He's a great fictional boyfriend, but he doesn't make it on my top ten list. (Yes, I have a top ten list :P) Yes Kieren is the werewolf boyfriend mentioned in the synopsis.

I liked it, but didn't love it. Cynthia still had an interesting story, but I just couldn't love it. I plan to read Eternal soon! It sounds even better though!

  1. Since you mentioned that there was a restaurant plot with mouth-watering food I think I might have to read this book. The plot sounds interesting, but I can see why you only gave it three stars. GFC Krystal Larson

Revealing Eden by Victoria Foyt

When I read Dystopian books, I either love them or hate them. Most of the time I just can not connect with the characters, and sometimes it's the setting. But with Revealing Eden I was completely captivated with the world Victoria created.

Steel by Carrie Vaughn

Time travel and pirates. These are two words that I love to hear! I have always love time travel, and pirates have always interested me. So finding this book was like finding a buried treasure! ( why yes, that was super cheesy, but I couldn't resist!) In fact a book I am writing now has to do with time travel. :D hehe!

The Queen of Kentucky by Alecia Witaker

The Queen of Kentucky is a book that I, as a Kentucky native myself, could relate to. Being able to relate to the characters and the surroundings really made me enjoy this book. The Queen of Kentucky is one of those books that has such a great message.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

As soon as I got this book I tore into it! I could not wait to read it! And once I started Under the Never Sky it never let my hand. :) This is by far one of my favorite dystopian novels that I have read this year! Veronica really surprised me with her debut! Think of Under the Never Sky as awesome as Angelfire, and if you know me at all then you know that this novel blew my socks off! it!
