Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.
When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?
My Review
I can't even put into words how amazing this book was! Just to die for. Loved every word. Couldn't put it down.  So be warned my review is not going to do justice to this book. You really just need to go buy and read it so you can bask in the utter awesomeness of this book.

I heard a lot of hype about this book around the time of BEA. I was secretly jealous of all those lucky bloggers who snagged up an ARC at the expo. I really wanted to go :( , but alas I was not able to. So I waited and waited till this book was sent to me! and the wait was awful, I really wanted to read this book NOW! To make me crave the book even more they add this magnificent cover, that is just transcends beauty! I love that I now have this book on my shelf in all it's pretty glory. Lets just hope Little, brown sticks with the same cover style. :)

Upon hearing all the hype I had very high expectations for this book. And Lani Taylor did not let me down! Lani is just amazing. She took this over used idea; 'An angel and demon fall in love.', and completely re-created it! Her writing style will leave you breathless, and craving for more. Throughout the book I was guessing on what was going to happen next, and it was a very difficult task. The story line is so new, fresh and creative it just blew me away.

The title. I didn't understand it at first. I know your asking a daughter of smoke.... what? But as you read the book the title makes perfect sense!

The characters are just as amazing as the story line. They are each so developed, and each have their own personalities. Karou is a girl you just have to love. She feels as if she doesn't really belong or fit in anywhere. The reader can really connect with her. And she has a backbone! Yay, for girls who can stand up, stand out, and fight! Now on to Akiva... Oh, how I love and hate thy! You drove me... as well as Karou crazy! Ohh but I can never resist a handsome winged man :P

Also the humor! I loved it! Iefoun d myself laughing a few times as I read this book.

Have you ever had that feeling where you didn't want something to end? Yes...no! Well if not then you will for sure know that feeling as you creep closer to the last few pages in Daughter of Smoke and Bone. As I finished the last page I just sat their stunned. I wanted more, I needed more! And not to mention it was probably the biggest cliffhanger EVER!

Okay I need to stop.....I could go on and on at just how much I loved this book, but really you need to read it for yourself!

  1. This book was purely wonderful as you say. I gave my beloved signed copy to a friend who is in a reading rut. I told her to stop reading what she is stuck on and start it. She will fly through it. But I want, NEED it back!

Loved the review. New follower :)

Revealing Eden by Victoria Foyt

When I read Dystopian books, I either love them or hate them. Most of the time I just can not connect with the characters, and sometimes it's the setting. But with Revealing Eden I was completely captivated with the world Victoria created.

Steel by Carrie Vaughn

Time travel and pirates. These are two words that I love to hear! I have always love time travel, and pirates have always interested me. So finding this book was like finding a buried treasure! ( why yes, that was super cheesy, but I couldn't resist!) In fact a book I am writing now has to do with time travel. :D hehe!

The Queen of Kentucky by Alecia Witaker

The Queen of Kentucky is a book that I, as a Kentucky native myself, could relate to. Being able to relate to the characters and the surroundings really made me enjoy this book. The Queen of Kentucky is one of those books that has such a great message.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi

As soon as I got this book I tore into it! I could not wait to read it! And once I started Under the Never Sky it never let my hand. :) This is by far one of my favorite dystopian novels that I have read this year! Veronica really surprised me with her debut! Think of Under the Never Sky as awesome as Angelfire, and if you know me at all then you know that this novel blew my socks off! it!
